Wood Pigeon

This landscape (horizontal) print of a Woodpigeon (Columba palumbus), sometimes known as the Common Wood Pigeon, was created from a picture taken from an upstairs window of my home. One evening I looked out and there was a Woodpigeon, in a cherry tree, illuminated by the evening sunlight. So I went for my camera, carefully opened the window and was able to capture the shot. The Woodpigeon is the largest of the UK pigeons and although similar to the other varieties in many ways, the Woodpigeon has a large white patch on the sides of its neck as well as white transverse bars on its wings. The sound of the woodpigeons in the trees across the road from my grandmother’s house will always be with me. Whenever I hear Woodpigeons I am transported back in time, even though, sadly the woodland of my childhood is now a housing estate.
