Reddish Egret

The Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens) typically has a grey body as seen here with a rusty red neck. There is however a less common all white morph. About 26 inches (66 cm) tall it actively chases its prey, running after it through shallow water. At other times it stretches its wings out to entice fish into the shade, a technique called mantling or umbrella hunting. I took the photograph on Fort Myers Beech, Florida, US
