Puffins on the Rocks

The Uk’s Atlantic or Common (Fratercula arctica) Puffins spend the winter at sea enduring the cold and storms, returning to land for breeding in spring and summer. They are gregarious forming colonies of nest burrows. This colour landscape (horizontal) format image shows several Puffins gathered on the rocks off the North Sea coast of northern England. There are four species of Puffins and all are members of the Alcide or Auk family. As well as the Atlantic Puffin there are the Horned Puffin, Tufted Puffin and the Rhinoceros Auklet.
