Once the thriving heart of a major world city and its centre of trade the London Docklands was transformed into an international centre for financial trade. New buildings were built for offices and living creating a new area for the wealthy. Even after leaving the EU the United Kingdom has still maintained a major role in world finance with much of it operating through Canary Wharf. The tall buildings dominate the local skyline from many directions. In this view, the modern, One Canada Square, contrasts strongly with the old chimney of the Canal's industrial past.
