Taking goods closer to the population centre of London instead of the long road trip from Paddington brought trade to the area. The New Road (later Pentonville Road) was built from Paddington to Islington in 1756. This was extended from Islington into London as the City Road in 1761. So when the City Road Basin was opened in 1820 the infrastructure for gett goods to London was already there. This black and white landscape (horizontal) format print shows the view looking east towards the City Road Lock from under the Danbury Street Bridge.
