The Brown Pelican (Pelicanus occidentalise) is one of two pelicans found in North and Central America. They have a long bill with pouch and they catch fish by scooping them up. They are usually to be seen flying close to the surface of the sea before rising up and diving on their prey. A large bird they are rarely seen inland. Brown Pelicans are found in Florida all year round unlike their cousins the larger, American White Pelican which is only found there in winter and spring.
